What to do in the event of a liability claim (when a member of the public is injured of their property is damaged)?

 When an accident occurs it is important that the matter is reported to us and your insurance company as quickly as possible.

To expedite, please provide as much of the following documentation and evidence at the earliest time.

  • Accident details: Tell us as much as you can about what’s happened, including anything that’s been recorded in an accident log or book.

Photos/ videos: If you can, take photos or a video of the accident scene straightaway. Whoever is at fault, photos or a video will help save time and money for everyone involved

  • Witness details: Did anyone see what happened? If so, try to get their contact details ie names, addresses and telephone numbers. If you can get a brief statement from them at the scene that is even better.
  • Risk assessment details: This document shows that you, as a business owner, have considered risks around your business and when you interact with members of the public.
  • CCTV footage: Are there any cameras in or around where the accident happened? If so, indicating to us where they are will be helpful and see if a copy can be obtained and shared.

  • Emergency Steps: Do everything you reasonably can to protect yourselves from further damage or injury. Keep a record of what was done and share that with us as soon as possible.
  • Damage or theft details: Tell us as much as you can about what’s happened, including anything that’s been recorded in an accident log or book.

Crime Reference Number. If this matter has been reported to the police please let us know which station you went to and what their reference number is.

  • Photos: take pictures of any damage or photos you might have for items missing.
  • Estimates and Invoices: Provide any estimates and invoices for the damage or stolen items especially for any emergency activity that you needed to do.
  • Additional Costs: Keep a record of all additional expenses you are incurring as a result of the damage. This will be useful in understanding the size of your claim.

What to do in the event of a motor claim

  • Photos/ videos: If you can, take photos or a video of the accident scene straight away. Whoever is at fault, photos or a video will help save time for everyone involved.
  • Witness details: Did anyone see what happened? If so, try to get their contact details including names, addresses and telephone numbers. If you can get a brief statement from them at the scene that is even better.
  • Repair details: Confirmation as to whether your own repairs are likely to be greater than the excess. Visit a reputable repairer of your choice, with details of your insurer and policy so they can take in hand the process of your claim and repair with insurers and loss adjustors directly.
